What does it mean to be ‘partial’? Today, in James 1:1-13, inspired by the Holy Spirit, James focuses on the sin of partiality in the Church—the sin of favouritism and discrimination. To be ‘partial’ towards some means to judge others as lesser than you based on appearances, going completely against the love of Christ. We are called to love our neighbours - not to judge them! Jesus came to break down walls of hostility with His gospel that is available to all. When we are partial, we miss the heart of God. When we are partial, we aren’t humbling ourselves before His glory. It is imperative that believers show mercy and love because they have been shown supreme mercy and love from the Father. We cannot be genuine Christ followers and walk in patterns of hatred and discrimination. How can we better love our neighbours today?
